A Poem in Response to the World

Can I respond to the whole wide world

with one poem?

with just one word?

one soul?

In fact, is it only one that can.

It is the one who says

I hear you

smothered in silence

creating music in the doldrums

between the stagnant breath

of incestuous world order

and a garden full of dandelions.

It is the one who says

Don’t be fooled by the big talk

Only silence can reveal

what you’re after.

So take comfort.

The world is not ending.

The wind blows quietly

before it uproots the earth.

Then the smell of gun powder

will finally be off your skin

and the war will end

and I will prepare a table before you

in the presence of your enemies.
